Bookbinders Hunter & Foulis Ltd were closely linked with many Edinburgh printing firms. The firm was founded by William Hunter at Strichen’s Close, off the High Street, in 1857 as William Hunter & Company.  Douglas A. Foulis took over the firm in 1925.

In 1935 the firm moved to its Bridgeside Works in McDonald Road in Edinburgh.  The firm became Hunter & Foulis Ltd in 1946.   Hunter & Foulis was their taken-over by Henderson & Bisset in 1968.  In 2001 after 66 years in McDonald Road the firm moved to Haddington.
