T & T Clark

Compositor's Setting

T & T Clark were predominantly theological publishers. The firm was founded by Thomas Clark (1799-1865) in 1821 and began operating out of Parliament Square. When these premises were destroyed by fire in 1823 the business relocated to George Street.

In 1846 Thomas Clark was joined by his nephew Thomas Clark and the firm became T. and T. Clark. In 1973 the company merged with John Bartholomew and Son, map publishers. In 1980 it was taken over by Reader's Digest and subsequently became part of News International, a subsidiary of NewsCorp. The company became part of the Continuum International Publishing Group in 2000.

The T & T Clark archive is held by the National Library of Scotland.
